A year of impact — navigating the information landscape

The Impact Update for Internews was designed to capture the urgency of the organization’s mission in an increasingly fragmented information landscape. The report's core message focused on the indispensable role of trusted information in fostering survival, peace, and progress in a world marked by rising authoritarianism, economic instability, and humanitarian crises. As always, the challenge was to communicate the scope of Internews’ global impact while underscoring the continued relevance of their work in these tumultuous times.

For this year’s design, I wanted to create a visual language that conveyed both the gravity of the issues Internews tackles and the transformative power of information. To communicate this, I used a bitmap effect on the imagery throughout the report, which created a digital, pixelated aesthetic. This effect was meant to evoke the modern, fragmented information landscape we are all navigating. The imagery's digital, grainy quality brought an air of futurism while underscoring the role of data and digital platforms in the fight for reliable information.

The cover design itself was an abstracted, pixelated landscape, representing the very concept of an information ecosystem — a world built from pieces of data, both whole and fragmented, and shaped by the way information is shared and consumed. This metaphor echoed the complexities and challenges that Internews faces as we work across borders, languages, and cultures to maintain the integrity of information systems worldwide.

Ultimately, this year’s report wasn’t just about showcasing Internews’ significant achievements but about framing the ongoing struggle for information as a battle for democracy, safety, and the future. Through the combination of bold visuals, abstract design elements, and engaging features, the Impact Update reinforced Internews’ role in shaping healthier, more resilient information ecosystems worldwide.
